Company History

The CMI Safe Company has been continually supplying the Australian Government with safes since the 1950s. This includes supplying safes to the Australian Defence force for use in all their conflict areas around the world.

The CMI safe company recently started exporting strong-arm doors in France for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and also to Australian embassies around the world. These steel doors with steel frames, protect the entrance to vault rooms and CMI have been entrusted by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to manufacture and install these in most major Australian embassies around the world.

When McDonalds restaurants first came to the Australian market in 1971, they chose The CMI Safe Company to supply them with safes they require and have been a loyal customer ever since. The CMI Safe Company continue to supply drug safes to all major hospitals & medical centres and supply heavy duty firearm safes both domestically and internationally.

Finally, The CMI Safe Company is one of the last remaining companies in Australia that actually manufacture their safes here locally.

Compliance

CMI products are all compliant based. The CMI Company recognises that different states across Australia have different compliance rules, and for this reason, CMI finds the most stringent compliance state and builds their safes above that rating. They go and search for the most difficult compliance rating when it comes to firearms or drug safes and CMI goes above and beyond with their heavy-duty metals and advanced locking systems, they do this to always stay one step ahead any compliance rating to make sure their product stays relevant.

Technology

It is interesting to note just how advanced the technology used in their locking mechanisms are. CMI uses a super high-tech lock that doesn’t require an external power source. Simply turning the dial on these locks generates enough power to light up the LCD screen and operate the lock. They can also detect a robotic arm being used to try and brute force into your safe and will automatically shut the lock down for a given period. It is a SCEC requirement that all CMI Class A & Class B rated safes use this locking mechanism. Therefore, these safes are not only trusted by the Australian Government and the Department of Foreign Affairs buy also by NASA
